Catalytic Products International (CPI) installed a 10,000 SCFM TRITON 10.97 Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) for a Canadian adhesive manufacturer seeking reliable and efficient control of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). The system effectively treats process vent and tank emissions containing vinyl acetate, methanol, and IPA while delivering exceptional destruction efficiency and energy performance.
Process Type: Drum: Process vents and tanks- VOC: Vinyl Acetate, Methanol, IPA
- Process Air Volume: 10,000 scfm
- Control Type: Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO)
- Destruction Rate of Efficiency (DRE): 98%
- Thermal Efficiency: 97%
Solution Provided
To meet the customer’s compliance and operational goals, CPI engineered, manufactured, and supplied a TRITON 10.97 RTO designed for robust VOC destruction with minimal energy consumption. The unit uses high‑performance ceramic media to capture and reuse heat, delivering up to 97% thermal efficiency while consistently achieving 98% VOC destruction efficiency.
The RTO thermally oxidizes VOCs by exposing them to elevated temperatures, oxygen, and sufficient residence time. In this environment, harmful hydrocarbons convert to carbon dioxide, water vapor, and usable thermal energy. This process ensures clean, compliant exhaust while lowering fuel consumption and operating costs.
How the RTO Works
During operation, VOC‑laden air enters the first ceramic media heat‑exchange bed, where it is preheated before entering the combustion chamber. After oxidation occurs, the clean gas passes through a second ceramic bed, transferring heat back into the system before discharge.
This regenerative cycling enables:
- High thermal energy recovery
- Reduced natural gas usage
- Stable destruction efficiencies
- Lower operating costs compared to other oxidizer types
Project Scope
CPI provided a turnkey oxidizer package that included:
- TRITON 10.97 RTO installed on a customer‑supplied concrete pad
- Insulated booster fan
- RTO exhaust stack
- Stack testing platform
- Preliminary spare parts kit
- Startup and commissioning technical support
Throughout the project, CPI worked closely with the customer’s engineering and environmental teams to ensure smooth integration, proper design parameters, and full regulatory compliance.
