Catalytic Products International (CPI) recently completed the installation of a new Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) at a Midwest-based, two piece, polymer-coated steel can manufacturer for the abatement of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) generated in the metal decorating process. This new RTO is a duplicate on an existing RTO installed in 2017, as the facility continues to expand with new steel can processing and metal decorating lines.
For more than sixteen years, CPI has worked closely to support this customer as they continue to expand. This includes a process formulation change producing some operational challenges with the formation of SiO2. CPI Aftermarket Service engineers also worked closely with this customer to optimize the operation of these units to maximize production uptime.
When it came time to expand their production capabilities, which included adding an additional new can manufacturing and metal decorating line, CPI was once again selected as the supplier for the air pollution control equipment. The 7,500 SCFM RTO destroys the incoming VOCs with continuous + 98% destruction rate efficiency (DRE) and +95% thermal heat recovery.
CPI took a partnership approach with the customer as it relates to installation of each RTO. Along with providing the RTOs, exhaust stacks, booster fans and electrical installation, our team provided the necessary engineering packages including ductwork designs that were used by the customer and its contractors. On each project, we guarantee the entire systems met the engineering scope of supply.
The 7,500 SCFM TRITON Series RTOs include innovative design features allowing for continuous VOC destruction which is not hindered by any operational characteristics. The systems’ low cost of operation center on the use of a nominal 95% primary heat exchanger, utilizing sophisticated TSS control logic which constantly monitors and adjusts the system to maximize thermal efficiency.
