Along with providing equipment to solve customer’s complex VOC, NOx, and Odor pollution challenges, we also provide installation services. I was on site for the recent “lift” of a new QUADRANT SR-35,000 Thermal Oxidizer (TO).
Capital equipment, like a Thermal Oxidizer, is designed to operate for many years; however wear and tear eventually may require the equipment to be replaced. In some situations it is possible to retrofit or upgrade portions of the existing air pollution control equipment in order to minimize the investment required to meet the production or permitting requirements. For this project CPI was able to offer a replacement of the heat exchanger and combustion chamber of a 20-year-old QUADRANT Thermal Oxidizer, while maintaining portions of the existing equipment and utilities.
One of the challenges our engineering team faced in replacing equipment were space constraints. Designing the new heat exchanger and combustion chamber to provide the required destruction efficiency within the allowed footprint is one challenge. Installing the pieces is another. In the 20 years since the original system was installed there have been several changes in the area surrounding the building where the oxidizer was originally installed on the roof. CPI’s engineering team needed to remove the original pieces from the roof and lift the new pieces in place safely and efficiently.

The CPI project management team brings strong experience in working with qualified, licensed contractors. Additionally, all CPI vetted contractors conform to site specific safety procedures, attending customer specific training programs as required. Each contractor is required to provide their own Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) such as protective clothing, helmets, goggles, footwear designed to protect the wearer’s body from injury or infection. We understand that each customer has unique environments that may include hazards such as heat, chemical, biohazards, energy hazards and we take safety seriously.
There is a saying, “the devil is in the details.” As part of the installation services CPI coordinates with the customer’s schedules to ensure minimal production downtime. This includes having the required contractors (mechanical, electrical) available at the required time, having the crane onsite and ready, and scheduling the arrival of the trucks in planned order of offload. Installations can come to a screeching halt as you wait for a missing item, so our project managers work hard to ensure all the pieces come together to avoid delays which can result in additional crane time and demurrage charges.
