As the seasons change, it is time to begin planning for shut-down maintenance of your air pollution control equipment. There is a delicate balance between scheduled downtime and plant up-time reliability. Major shutdown work is intended to support maintenance efforts carried out until the next major shutdown, including minor downtime repairs. Many industrial customers will schedule downtime for their operations during the end of year holidays or in the Summer, leading to the service technician calendar getting filled up for both the on-site maintenance teams, as well as the skilled technical experts available from the OEM equipment manufacturers.

Recently, Catalytic Products International (CPI) worked with a customer who determined during a routine plant inspection that they had unexpected emissions from their process. This can happen as regulations change and as plants continue to improve operations or even change products or processes. In this case, the customer voluntarily shut down their process immediately until a solution could be found.

As we headed out to lunch yesterday, we were presented with a smoky haze and burning smell. The smell and smoke were so persistent, we drove around our offices expecting to see a local building on fire. Amazingly, it turned out that this fire was not local, instead the smoke was the result of forest fires in Canada.
