Industrial manufacturing companies, such as the tire and rubber manufacturing industry are striving for maximum uptime of their process manufacturing equipment. It is vital that unplanned downtime is kept to a minimum, and maintenance intervals can be predicted to match the scheduled downtime of each individual facility. This is especially true with your air pollution control equipment which is essentially the “permit to operate” the revenue generating portions of your manufacturing process.  Don’t let the stress of untimely and costly downtime build up, literally.

As the seasons change, it is time to begin planning for shut-down maintenance of your air pollution control equipment.  There is a delicate balance between scheduled downtime and plant up-time reliability.  Major shutdown work is intended to support maintenance efforts carried out until the next major shutdown, including minor downtime repairs. Many industrial customers will schedule downtime for their operations during the end of year holidays or in the Summer, leading to the service technician calendar getting filled up for both the on-site maintenance teams, as well as the skilled technical experts available from the OEM equipment manufacturers.

Recently, Catalytic Products International (CPI) worked with a customer who determined during a routine plant inspection that they had unexpected emissions from their process. This can happen as regulations change and as plants continue to improve operations or even change products or processes.  In this case, the customer voluntarily shut down their process immediately until a solution could be found.

“What just happened?” – a phase all too often heard when equipment is not working the way it is supposed to. A glitch in the system? Power surge? Or maybe a small modification in your production was made. Could that have caused the current problem? You're responsible for getting the equipment operational as fast as possible.

As we headed out to lunch yesterday, we were presented with a smoky haze and burning smell.  The smell and smoke were so persistent, we drove around our offices expecting to see a local building on fire.  Amazingly, it turned out that this fire was not local, instead the smoke was the result of forest fires in Canada. Catalytic Products is located in Lake Zurich, Illinois which is in the nothern part of the state.

The dog days of summer are upon us. The month of August has many people are on vacation (or holiday, if you prefer) enjoying the hot, muggy days by taking trips to a pool or beach. Kids are chasing lightening bugs. The endless summer days, unfortunately, are coming to an end. The summer sun is not up as bright and early as it was just last month. School registration is in full swing. Some students are already participating in pre-season sport practices.
